Safeguarding

Safeguarding Statement

Safeguarding is defined as protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of health and/or development, ensuring that children grow up in the provision of safe and effective care and taking action to enable all children to have the best life chances.

Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child.

(NSPCC)

Medway is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The schools Safeguarding policy can be found here

This means that we have a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and procedures in place which are adhered to by all staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) who must ensure that they are aware of these procedures. (Parents and carers are welcomed and encouraged to read the policy)

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is:

Mr Steven Williams (Headteacher)

Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSLs) are:

Mrs Rehana Miah (Deputy head)

Mrs Sarah Niner (Deputy Head – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

Ms Sian Elton (Assistant Head)

Mrs Paulette Pemberton (Pastoral Team)

Mr Martyn Atkinson (Pastoral Team and Attendence Officer)

Our Safeguarding governor is

Mr Michael Berriman

If you are concerned about a child’s welfare, please record your concern, and any observations or conversation heard, and report to one of the DSLs as soon as possible the same day.

Do NOT conduct your own investigation.

If your concerns relate to the actions or behaviour of a member of staff (which could suggest that s/he is unsuitable to work with children) then you should report this to one of the DSLs in confidence, who will refer the matter to the Head teacher (or the Chair of Governors if the concern relates to the Head teacher) – who will consider what action to take.
