Curriculum

At the heart of our curriculum is the aim of inculcating and developing our pupils' habitus, the knowledge, values and behaviour that will make them happy and successful adults.

To do this, our curriculum is shaped by our values (see below) and a belief that every learning opportunity should be taken to develop pupils' cultural capital, that is their knowledge of art, culture and other important ideas which will allow them to become educated and knowledgeable adults. Our curriculum aims for pupils to engage with 'the best that has been thought and said'.

Our curriculum is also informed by our aims:

  • Together we succeed
  • Everyone's of equal worth
  • Achieve to your full potential
  • More diversity, more acceptance, a greater good

We succeed together and value pupils' equal worth by teaching pupils all together whenever possible. At medway SEND and EAL children are included in class wherever possible to build relationships and learn from a high-quality curriculum. To ensure we comply with our duties in the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 about making our curriculum accessible for those with disabilities or special educational needs, we aim is to help all children to benefit as fully as possible from their education.

Our curriculum is underpinned and shaped by our values. Each value links to a British value (see slideshow below).

  • Belonging
    • We all have a say in the communities that we’re a part of.

  • Knowledge
    • The more knowledge we have, the more freedom we have to think as we see fit and to make choices that affect us whilst recognising that we’re accountable for our own actions.

  • Trust
    • We respect the rules within the communities to which we belong and we trust that the rules are there to keep us safe.
  • Respect (KS1) or Equality (KS2)
    • The understanding that despite our differences, we are all of equal worth and deserve respect.

Medway pupils should be ready to make positive contributions as responsible citizens within our vibrant and diverse society. Please visit each class page to see what the children have been  and will learn across the year. The pages include our curriculum overviews and medium term planning. If you would like further information on the curriculum we teach, please contact the school directly.
